“ALOV” Project of Art Events and Artist’s Residencies. Art professionals and practitioners Asmer Abdullayeva, Anne Baumann, Dadash Mammedov, Sabina Shikhlinskaya and Sarah Knill Jones are joining forces to create in Azerbaijan/Baku an independent artistic platform which aims to promote intercultural dialogue and exchange between artists in Azerbaijan and elsewhere in the world. Through this structure we would like to facilitate discussions, analysis, and development through a variety of events, from exhibitions, discussions, presentations, film screenings, artist’s talks, salon events, artist’s residencies and collaborations.
The “ ALOV” project’s activities will run regularly over a period of 18 months, start from March 2014 in collaboration with Art Council Azerbaijan.
A salon event is an opportunity for artists to bring a piece of work to a gathering of fellow artists and art professionals in order to discuss and analyze their work, with the aim of encouraging self-reflection, and to better awareness of how their work fits within their own practice, but also within the wider context of contemporary art in general.
The artist-in-residency program will enable international artists to live and work in Azerbaijan for short periods of time, from four to six weeks, creating opportunities for doing research and making new work, but also to provide opportunities for resident artists to present their projects publicly through artist talks, presentations, exhibitions and public discussions. We are committed to creating a stimulating and invigorating environment for both the visiting artists and for Azerbaijani artists, and to create opportunities for productive exchanges between different perspectives.
Our general focus is to provide opportunities for exposure to new work and ideas, whilst enriching our understanding of worldwide artistic practice, through accessible and collaborative means. Corresponding to the demand of an independent and boundless/open interchange of ideas, the project will be supported by various local and international cultural Institutions, Organizations and Foundations.
