Poster Exhibitions Exhibition "On The Trace Of Traditions"
Exhibition "On The Trace Of Traditions"

On May 4, the official opening ceremony of On The Trace Of Traditions exhibition, dedicated to the May 5 ˗ Day of Carpet Weavers, will be held at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. State representatives, governmental and public organizations, artists, carpet experts, lecturers, students and specialists in this field will attend the event.
The works by the Traditional Technologies Department of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum ˗ carpet sketches, pile and flat-woven carpets, carpet products and other items from the museum collection, will be demonstrated at the exhibition.
The Traditional Technologies Department has been operating in the museum since 2013. Artists draw sketches of carpets from the museum exposition. These carpets are woven by weavers on looms placed in the museum exposition, visually demonstrating the carpet making process to all-comers. Here all carpet techniques are used in order to revive forgotten traditions. Thus, the department staff within the Family Day project conducts master classes on cheten, a type of flat-woven carpet since February 17, 2017. During 2017, the Traditional Technologies Department conducted master classes on zili, verni, sumakh, palas, chiyi-palas, kilim, jejim, ladi and gadirga, which are the flat-woven carpet techniques.
Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, signed a number of laws and decrees on the development of Carpet Weaving in our country. The Law on the Protection and Development of the Azerbaijani Carpet Art and the Decree on the Establishment of Proffesional Holiday Day of Carpet Weavers are vivid examples of the attention of our state to this field and the care shown to the ancient art of our people with the purpose of its preservation and transfer to future generations.
The Azerbaijani Carpet Art has an ancient history. The Azerbaijani carpet is stored in museums and private collections around the world. On November 10, 2010, the Azerbaijan Carpet Weaving Art was included within UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as a result of state care, as well as on the initiative of First Vice President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva and her great efforts in this direction.
