Museum of Modern Art presents the “Nostalgia, pluralia tantum” Exhibition by a famous Moldavian journalist and artist Vasile Botnaru. Vasile Botnaru was born on the 12th of January 1957 in a rural teacher’s family. He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism in Chi?in?u and in Moscow (Lomonosov Moscow State University). He worked in all types of press related jobs. At present Vasile Botnaru is engaged in radio journalism. He is also a head of the Radio Liberty office in Chi?in?u. He is also a lecturer at the Journalism Faculty.
During his student years he got involved in graphic arts. Although he has no academic education in this field, the community of artists recognized him as an original and special painter who got known due to his wine painting technique.
His works were repeatedly presented not only by Moldovan and foreign press but also in poetry books of many Moldovan authors. Vasile Botnaru’s works were exhibited in Romania, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, China, Latvia and Estonia. In 2016 he presented his works together with Romanian and Moldovan artists in Brussels, at the European Parliament.
Vasile Botnaru is a recognizable artist in Moldova. He began his graphic experience working with ink. Then he used coffee and wine in his paintings.
Various series of works in mixed technique are presented at this exhibition.
The painter explains the title of the exhibition this way:
“Past and future are alive in each person at the same time. Present is like a neck of an hourglass through which the sand passes in the clepsydra from the upper to the lower cup. Memories and dreams are bound in ourselves. We elevate, distinguish and lighten up places and events that comprise the stained glass of our memories. Unrealizable dreams of the present intertwine for being implemented in the future”.

Mud volcanism is one of the most interesting natural geological phenomena on the Earth. Some geological, hydrogeological, and tectonic factors lead to the formation of mud volcanoes. When mixtures of gas, water, and some sediments expel at the surface of the Earth, and this process continues for a long period of time, then these mixtures take different external morphological shapes, and create mud volcanoes.
